Water once a week in summer, once every 10 days in winter. Always check if the potting medium is dry before watering. Use room temperature water and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot.

Most orchids prefer bright, indirect light. East-facing windows are ideal. Phalaenopsis can tolerate lower light, while Cattleyas need brighter conditions. Avoid direct afternoon sunlight.

Temperature & Humidity

Maintain 18-28°C temperature range. Kerala's climate is perfect for most tropical orchids. Keep humidity at 50-70%. Use pebble trays or room humidifiers during dry months.

Fertilizing

Feed orchids every 2 weeks during growing season with diluted fertilizer. Use "weakly, weekly" method - quarter strength fertilizer with each watering for best results.

Pruning

Remove dead flower spikes after blooming. Cut Phalaenopsis spikes above the second node to encourage re-blooming. Remove yellow or dead leaves promptly to prevent disease.

Repot every 1-2 years or when potting mix breaks down. Best time is after flowering or during new root growth. Use fresh orchid mix and slightly larger pots.
